A Platonic Relationship
By: Queegy
Rating: PG
Genre: Romance/Angst
Summary: Just a ficlet I wrote for school about Scully’s love for Mulder
Dedication: For my dad
Dana Scully nervously proceeded down the thin FBI corridor towards the elevator. Today was the day she would tell him of her undying, painful love. She swallowed hard and closed her eyes, trying to find a calmer state of mind as she pressed the down button on the barren elevator. She tapped her foot quickly, for her nerves had the better of her at this point.
Scully let out a relieved sigh when the elevator came to meet her. She stepped inside and pressed the “B” button. The fear that coated and compressed her heart was giving her the worst of times. “Come on, Dana, get a grip!” she whispered to herself. Nothing would work to stop the frantic rush and furied blood flow now. She was stuck in this sort of “Limbo” for the time being and she had nothing to do but reflect on her actions... or rather the actions she intended to make.
When the elevator stopped at the very bottom, a last rush of fear befell her. The pain of constant dread was sickening, but when she got to the door of the office they shared, there was nothing but determination. She swung open the door, making more noise than necessary and walked over to him. “Uh, Mulder?”
He looked up at her and smiled, “What is it, Scully?” he inquired, “You look like a nervous wreck!”
She blushed even though Mulder hadn’t complimented her. “I have something to tell you that I’ve been meaning to say for a long, long time...” she paused, so he could take in her words, and also to build suspense, “Mulder, I love you.” She slowly backed away, shaking terribly and hoping the moment wouldn’t last any longer.
Mulder got up from his seat and came to her, “Scully... I’ve always known you loved me... and I love you, too. But only as a friend of course.”
Scully sighed, “Yean, um, thanks.” He’d taken her words and contorted them into something different. If only she’d known! He did not desire love... or at least not from her. She felt so stupid and depressed. But maybe it was best they were only friends. Perhaps the basement office was not a divine setting for romance? This was the way their lives would be... for all eternity.
End.
