If there's anything that slightly annoys me about Homicide it's that they sometimes repeat a line of dialogue and jerk the camera, not sure what you call it. 'What did he say to you? What did he say to you?' Just how it's edited and looks. Hmm. Weeds - fairly crap, really. I read about why they did that in a book not too long ago ... will have to find it. But there's a particular reason for it.

Oh cool, ta. Bayliss was in an episode of Without a Trace that was on tonight. He wasn't a cop.

Finished more Homicide: LOTS. Pretty good, bad times for Frank. I mean, something was bound to happen even though he was quite level-headed and that, but it seemed obvious that he hoarded a lot of stress. I didn't expect this. The physicality of it was a little strange.

The physicality of it was a little strange. That's the part of I was talking about in the email It caught me off guard quite a bit. Sadly, I couldn't get into the show after that season ... there are a few episodes I enjoyed after (such as an amazing episode about a guy stuck under a subway train!) but I yearned for the older days ... y'know?

Yeah, I know what you mean. I've started the next series of it. It's still enjoyable...it's not as gritty or fearless as The Wire, but it's not meant to be. John Munch's philosophising/shtick still annoys me. Poor Frank, though, he looked like a broken man.

I can't help but feel there are times when the show is a touch overdramatic. I'm not sure about the new credits sequence, it's a little CSI ish. Interesting re Kellerman and the Feds. I've never been really been able to warm to him. I think I even prefer Brodie.

Temple Grandin, biopic from HBO
Amazing. I was quite affected by some of it. Didn't expect that. They nailed it.

Finished s5 of Homicide. Recently picked up two series of This American Life on DVD. The radio show is brilliant so it's interesting to see the short lived TV version. Ira Glass is a really good host and producer. Check out the radio show, the podcasts are a little long - 1 hour (I don't subscribe as I can't fit them into my life ), but it's very much worth a listen. Some really fascinating insights into the human experience in a way that's not cliched or sentimental.

That was a very good episode alright. Although, on the DVDs, it's episode 4, on IMDB, it's episode 7 or something. Typical. But yeah, it was good to see something different, definitely not a normal case. The preceding episodes were a bit silly, involving the rich family with Gee and Frank being blinkered. Didn't really buy that and found it a touch annoying as they're usually quite rational.

Well, not much Homicide watching since I last posted, but hopefully that will change as I watched an episode last night.
Finished Mad Men series 4, very good overall. Rubicon became rather good after the first 3 episodes which were not great. Seemingly the show's creator left due to 'creative differences' (yeah yeah). Can't say I'm sorry he left as things only seemed to improve from there on. No word yet about whether it will be renewed for a second series. Breaking Bad series 2 on DVD - very good. House and Supernatural have also returned, improved after a so so start for both, series 7 and 6 respectively.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but did Homicide use music montages in the earlier years? I honestly can't remember. Another thing that's bothering me slightly is that some scenes have felt a little flat, as if the actors were not all that committed, just a kind of 'say it, get this over' type thing. A lack of a conviction. A shame because I never thought I'd say that about a show like this. That said, it still has scenes which carry a lot of weight - one featuring a women with AIDS was very powerful.

Music was very prominent in seasons 2, 3 and 4, some great choices too, like Garbage and Counting Crows. I had a problem watching the last few years of the show, it had its moments, like the women with AIDS which is hugely moving, but I felt like everything became soap operaish - even the directing and production.

You're alive? There was a definite shift in the show, even with the likes of Gee. Ah well, I'll watch it until the end. Is the movie worth checking out? I'm about to watch Supernatural s06E7

I'm alive sometimes How is Ahab? I actually didn't get to the end or even see the film sadly, so you'll have to tell me. I found a complete boxset of the whole series in HMV the other day, but I don't think the film was included for some reason. It is in the US.

Hehe Aye, things are generally grand, pretty hectic with my Masters course. How about you?
Hmm, the show isn't terribly well-known so it's surprising to hear that the boxset is in the high street, though perhaps not as they tend to have all sorts these days.
