It was trailered as an action film. It is not. It was said to be a summer blockbuster. It's not. It was said to be a monster of the week episode.... where's the monster?
Bottom line: no matter how good it was/is - many people will go away feeling let down. While I enjoyed it and will probably go and see it again, I think a lot of people will go away thinking "was that the x-files? " and won't be recommending it to their friends.
What made this film any different to other two part epsiodes? I certainly think there was more suspense in 731 or even Tempus Fugit /Max.
I think the film is probably a grower and might benefit from repeated watching. Maybe it will be like Blade Runner? Dwarfed at the Box Office by E.T. - yet highly successful on video, and since considered a classic (downside there was never a squeal!). Time will tell. I think think CC misjudged what people wanted.
Still The X-Files has been plastered over the top of The Sun yesterday and today.. not exactly the target audience of the film but it might help.

It's gone, not listed anywhere in Dublin now. I wanted to see it again because I'm handing in my thesis today.
