And so we're into 2006 with no movement on XF2. Is all lost, is there no hope, will 2006 bring positive news? Do you still have faith? It's all a bit quiet, come on FOX and CC get a move on. Or is there any point, should we just let it go? Perhaps it's telling that the other thread hasn't had to be updated since last April...

I was thinking the same thing just the other day Ahab. The last bit of 'news' I heard was from October and is below. Problem I have with all these comments we hear supposedly made by DD/GA/CC and co always seem to be the same sort of thing we've heard in the past and a lot of it I think is just the same old comments resurfaced and said by someone else. Anabeth Gish for example (who is the only cast member I can think of that hasn't been asked the question) could say the exact same thing in an interview tomorrow and it would be taken as 'new' news when really it's the same stuff we've heard before. Take the quote from Rob Bowmans interview below... "I know they want to do it," he says. "I spoke to David and he wanted to do it. Chris wanted to do it. I think they're just working on timing."I've known myself that they've all wanted to make the film for donkeys years and heard numerous cast members say the same thing ever since May 2002 when TXF ended on TV. I wouldn't be surprised if Rob Bowman last spoke to DD whilst he was still working on the show, thats how old I suspect some of this stuff actually is. Fox are still saying nothing as usual CC hasn't done anything let alone a script in the past year as far as I'm aware. What happened to the self confessed workoholic? OK, I fully understand him wanting a rest after 10 years of working 7 days a week but I think nows the time he should get back to it. I wouldn't be surprised if the hold up was more to do with CC & Fox falling out around the time TXF ended, I think that has a lot more to do with it than any issues of timing ever will have. I still have hope that there will be another movie ;D but it gradually being taken away as each year passes. I want to believe....October 25, 2005 - X-Files: Fight the Future director Rob Bowman has high hopes that a sequel to his 1998 movie will soon begin production. "Very high," he tells IGN FilmForce. Whether or not the movie goes into production in 2006, for release in 2007, likely depends on the schedules of series creator Chris Carter and stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson. "I know they want to do it," he says. "I spoke to David and he wanted to do it. Chris wanted to do it. I think they're just working on timing." Having just released his Director's Cut version of Elektra on DVD, Bowman is now filming Stephen King's Nightmares and Dreamscapes: Umney's Last Case, starring William H. Macy (Sahara) and Jackie McKenzie (TV's The 4400). While he hopes to get approval from Fox on another project, the prospect of directing a second X-Files movie evokes positive feelings. "My involvement is not something I can control. And what I've said when I'm asked the question 'Will I direct it?' is: I have to be asked to direct it first. I'd love to direct it. But if I don't, then I just can't wait to see it because I know it'll be great." Although a screenplay has yet to be written, Bowman asserts he's eager to read anything Carter comes up with. He says, "[The script will be] cool and sophisticated. That's how Chris writes. I'm sure he has lots of stories. I just think, please hurry, because I can't wait to see it." As for which series storyline the sequel might focus on, Bowman says, "The only thing I know is it will be a stand alone story. That's what I was told. It won't be tied into the X-Files mythology. So, anybody who's never seen the X-Files can step into the movie theater and have the full experience, and really see the great chemistry between David and Gillian." Now, seven years since the release of the first X-Files movie, some might say interest in the franchise has waned. Bowman believes otherwise. "[The X-Files] is like an old friend from the past, he says. "Whenever they come knocking at the door, they'll be greeted with open arms. I think... I hope that there's no bad time to make the X-Files sequel. If it came out at any time, I'd run and see it. Everybody wants to make it. And certainly as a fan, I want to see it."

Rich,
Exactly, it's just the same stuff rehashed over and over "everyone wants to do it", since 2002 we've had this, oh it will be ready in 2004 (but that was too soon IMO) oh no maybe 2006, like you say as each year passes it's harder to keep the faith.
What's this about CC & Fox falling out, I don't recall hearing much about that, is it about him still being contracted with them or owing them a series of something else?

A small bit of news perhaps, a least some fresh quotes anyway. www.gilliananderson.ws/news/The Ausiello Report TV Guide February 3, 2006
The X-Files Being Reopened?
When it comes to the long-awaited second X-Files feature film, the truth is out there — and it ain't good. The latest setback? Franchise creator Chris Carter recently filed a lawsuit against 20th Century Fox over the show's profits.
"Everyone's [movie] deal is done — mine, David Duchovny's and Gillian Anderson's — but Chris' is not," says former X-Files producer Frank Spotnitz, who cooked up the sequel's story with Carter. "And I can't imagine that his deal will get completed until this legal dispute is resolved. My hope is that we can make this movie while people still care." (Carter declined to be interviewed for this story.)
The actress formerly known as Scully still cares, but her patience is wearing thin. "It's frustrating because we have no control," says the Emmy winner, who, with the exception of some film work, PBS' recent Bleak House adaptation and a five-minute rendezvous with me in her suite at the Ritz-Carlton in Pasadena, Calif., has maintained a relatively low profile since X-Files ended nearly four years ago. "It just seems like whoever is involved should do whatever it takes to make it happen."
And the sooner the better, considering Anderson has a project lined up that could further delay the X-flick. "I've been talking about having another child," says the 37-year-old and recently remarried mother of one, daughter Piper, 11. "And I don't want to be anywhere near the pregnancy when I'm [shooting] it."
If and when the film does get made, Spotnitz confirms that it'll be a self-contained story and not steeped in the show's dense mythology. "The first movie had to be about the mythology of the show," he explains. "But this doesn't have to be about the mythology of the show. It can just be a really good scary movie."

[shadow=blue,left,300] i believe no matter how long it takes, that a second x-files movie will be made. i believe this because of the greatness of the show, that the financial rewards would be enough to make people want to make it. i just hope it is sooner rather than later. i think congratulations to GA and i hope she does have another child...go her. i think timing was a crutial thing, but i think enough time has passed for another movie to work. i would love to see it base after the end of the seris just to find out what happens, but i think that could spoil the ending which was sooo great. so doing one before then would be great, but i think they could still do it during Doggett and Reyes times, even though i would rather have the lone gunmen in it to D&R. basically i think im sayin im prepared to wait however long because i know CC, DD and GA would not let us down and it will be worth it [/shadow]
