Watched the pilot, thought it was alright.
Apparently it only got 9 million viewers but seemingly it opened against America's Got Talent so that's understandable. I'll check out episode 2 anyway.

It's not absolutely atrocious, it's just that there are a number of elements that, even given the show's premise, are eye-rollingly difficult to suspend your disbelief for.
Some of the characters are paper thin.

Just watched episode 3 of Fringe and although stuff happened, it didn't really feel like much happened. It seemed a bit, I don't know, flat, empty...not a whole lot to hook you in. Even though it might be trying to hint at aspects of the bigger picture (oh big evil corporation, semi-sneaky network of bad types etc) I'm not sure it's found much to go on there or even in the smaller components in terms of a weekly dose of creepiness.

Episode 5...
I preferred D.P.O. from TXF.

I've kept up with this, and for the most part it's been relatively poor. Some episodes were just very meh, weak stories, poorly executed and underused characters. However, the last episode before they took a break (until April!) did actually work - all of the elements finally came together. It's a shame there's such a gap 'til it's on again.

Agree this series started off a bit slow, but I'm enjoying it. The ep before the break certainly whet the apetite. Not got around to watching ep 15 yet and there'll be another tomorrow, so with a quick recap of 'Ability' I'll be able to have a mini Fringe fest. :oD

The final episode was very good, and it's been picked up for a second series.

Series 2 is OK, still very hit and miss in the quality of episodes, particularly the standalones which are often just recycled X Files. Walter is great, though.

Pegasus and ASS are making me watch this - I've watched the first 2 episodes and will delve into the rest when I next get the chance. I've actually enjoyed what I've seen Walter is funny yeah - 'It really warms your ass' haha!

Walter is the heart of the show, no question about it. This is good because he's a well-drawn character and brilliantly acted in touching and subtle ways. One possible downside is there's a danger of overusing him (I won't say how til you're more into it). The relationship with his son is pretty good as well. Overall, I think the show still has some significant creative flaws, not just the recycled XF plots. I can't help but feel that it still hasn't settled down and gelled. Olivia is still a little cold and they need to give her more umph as a character, not in a cheesy way, just more credibility as a strong FBI agent. She does improve a bit in s2, though.

It's been renewed for a third series. Still need to get through season 1 ... and my free months trial of sky on my xbox keeps advertising season 2! I found a Fringe graphic novel the other day .... whilst looking for the recent X-Files graphic novel. I meant to by it a few weeks ago when I saw it again but decided not to ... some git has bought it since!

Finished s1 yet? There's a brilliant scene between Walter and Peter in the finale, very well acted. I've heard some people say it's what TXF should have been. I don't agree!
