Well at least the trailer's around somewhere. The closer we get to the release the more concerned I am. This is largely due to the marketing which has pretty damn poor if you ask me. Many films have done a better job of using the internet or even very early/small teasers to get people interested. Yes, we had a website and 4 or so photos early on but... The lack of postering/cardboard thingys in cinemas has also bothered me, the film is hardly a blip on the radar. I'd be surprised if the general public heard about IWTB outside of forums. Thus I fear it may do quite poorly at the box office. On the whole there's potential for it do badly not merely in terms of money but I fear some people may kill the show's reputation through bad word of mouth. I'm really worried about some of the dialgoue too.

Further news, the BBFC have classified it as 15s. THE X FILES - I WANT TO BELIEVE is a feature length film version of the popular cult US TV import that dealt in story-lines of unexplained phenomena, alien abduction and the supernatural. The film was classified '15' for some strong violence, grisly and horrific scenes and for the inclusion of dark and disturbing themes that were judged too strong for the lower categories. The rest of the info on their site is a bit spoilery so I won't post it here.

That rating may give it a bit more respectablity...but also may kill it, ugh. I'm more worried about the film ruining the reputation than anything else, but from what I've read in magazines etc it appears to look good...from what little everyone has seen of it anyway. Nostalgia and retro is popular these days these I'm not too worried, especially with the movie only having a budget of $30 million (that is small for a large scale movie...The Dark Knight had what? 180 Million?), I expect it to make a profit. The promotion campaign over he is slowly building up, there are posters on walls in the cinema and in some shops, it appears that every magazine to do with film or sci-fi has an article about the movie...some even putting DD and GA on the cover (see Death Ray and last months SFX). Hopefully the next week will see a big promotion because so far this isn't nearly enough for the casual fan of film watcher to even notice that it's out on August 1st. Fingers crossed

I'm ok with a 15 cert, I was sort of dreading it getting a 12 or 12a over here as it's a PG13 in the US. It's TXF, it's supposed to be scary and not for kiddies! I think a 15 is respectable and about right for the target audience. ;D

Looks like the publicity engine is gaining some speed here seen a few posters and believe the trailer is being fairly widely shown now Not seen any TV ad's yet but wouldn't be supprised if they start to pop up soon ;D

i am happy with the 15, as many of the boxsets are 15's.
although i am worried. The lack of publicity worried me slightly, but i did notice it on the rise. but now i herd that mike myers/jessica alba's new film 'the love guru' has the same release date as IWTB. it has had alot more advertising for it. Due to it aparently being something like 6years since mike myers has been seen on our screens or something :S
im worried that come august 1st, when people are met with the choice between IWTB or the love guru. That the X-files will loose out due to the small amount of advertising.

That's a good point about the boxsets actually. I'm happy it's 15s.

Just seen an advert for X-Files - I Want to Believe on TV. A new trailer I've not seen before about 30 secs long ;D. Still two weeks to go and already there are ads appearing, looks like Fox might be getting their act together when it comes to marketing ;D

There are some alleged snippets from reviews doing the rounds and they are not good, not good at all. Not sure how credible they are though.

I am going to see Hancock tomorrow... I hope I get to see the trailer too! (it will probably be the highlight) Do any of you listen to Mark Kermode's film review podcast? I'm hoping he'll give it a good review

Well Batman has taken over 66 million dollars which is a record for a film's opening day. Yeah, I've heard a few podcasts with Kermode, there's some clips of his reviews on Youtube. He doesn't pull his punches. Some of the reviews are sounding pretty awful. One remarked that it was a 'franchise killer' and that was from someone who was a fan.

I'd be interested to find out who is the source of these reviews is. I'm not searching for them as I'm still 100% spoiler free and plan to stay that way ;D but I suspect they are dodgy as CSM.
I may be wrong but I didn't think any press and certainly no fans have seen the film yet and the first opportunity anyone will get is on Wednesday at the LA Premier.
As far as I know only a selection of top Fox execs and some members of the cast/crew have seen a private screening.

The reviews in question are mostly stuff I've read on another forum that people have translated from Spanish, Greek or French. Some are quite scathing across the board.
Comments like this, bearing in mine it is a translation and some of the translation simply does not make sense:
Then you have other reviews saying GA is the only good thing about the film...
I'm a bit pessimistic. I'm not expecting something like David Fincher's Se7en but I'll be really disappointed if it's crap.
