Yes, it's from someone at AICN so...but he said he liked the series. And without spoiling, how they've written Billy Connolly's character sounds so fucking cliched. Urgh. The more I threads read the more concerned I become, some of it sounds like utter tripe, dare I say shambollic. Next to me is my DVDs, on my wall is 3 XF posters and behind me are some books on TXF. Waiting for this film has been somewhat of an incentive for me this summer, I don't have a lot to look forward to and if they have dropped the ball, and dropped it big time, then I'll be pretty damn disappointed. Gutted you might say. I really hope I'm proven wrong. Yes, critics are critics and some of them won't a clue about TXF but...they are not all evil.

I do feel that coming out the same time as Dark Night is bad planning... would have preferred a Winter release myself. Still can't be complaining now !

i had finally gotten over my fear of the film being awful. but after reading those quotes; which i do believe dont describe the film. as they couldnt possibly in my mind; have once again filled me with fear.
maybe i hadnt gotten over my fear of the film being awful. maybe the lack of adverticing had distracted me. now the adverts are coming about, it has given me chance to go back to fear the film again.
Although the advert does look amazing! ... and lets face it. we know CC wouldnt allow them to show the best bits of the film in an advert like alot films do.

Bad reviews are alway worrying, but especially when the future of TXF so much relies on the success of this film. My main concerns about the film are... A: It wont be scary enough by todays standards. Not like a full out horror film, I don't want that but not too tame either. My mind was somewhat put to rest on this when it got a 15 cert. I was so dreading it being a 12a lol. B: It'll be too shippy. Which I have a terrible feeling it's going to be by what CC & co have hinted at and how the series ended. Some shippyness I can handle so long as it's not over the top and the story is good but if they end up married or something similar I'll sell all my XF stuff in disgust! lol. The reported low budget ($35m) is a good thing as it should easily get that back after a couple of weeks at most and pull in a nice healthy profit worldwide for Fox. I'm predicting a $33m opening weekend in the US entering comfortably at number 2 behind TDK. I have faith in you CC, don't let me down. ;D

Not exactly a good move by Fox, but like you say it's done now. I really want to see TDK, so looks like I'll be going next week - I can't go to a cinema when TXF is on and not watch that! lol. It really annoys me when people keep comparing TDK to TXF - they are two totally different genres, why do they keep having to compare the two, constantly?

I just find it really hard to believe that CC & FS couldn't come up with a good solid story having five or so years to do so. Why after so much time would they risk turning out something so bad? That part of it I can't understand. It's hard to look too much into it without getting spoiled and I'm determined not to be ;D
Like I said earlier, I have faith in CC to do The X-Files proud ;D

The only thing keeping me going is my faith in CC. I know he wont let us down. I also hope that both GA and DD would have the sense to say no to doing it if they honestly didnt think it was good. And since CC, DD, FS and GA have all gone through with this, it has to be at least good.

Anyone try or manage to get on that live Premier Q&A thingy on the Official site Wed night/Thurs morning about 02.30 UK time? I tried to but just couldn't get anything to work apart from the chat room. I'm guessing there was just way too many people on there. The chat was the only thing I managed to get up and the conversations were just going up the screen at about 20 lines a sec with absolutley no way to slow it down or pause it! It was crazy! lol

The negative reviews are killing me, my expectations are now very, very low. If the plot is weak then grr. Some reviews are saying it's like something from CSI, of course CSI probably wouldn't exist without TXF but anyway. I dislike the comparsion and I have a feeling it won't go away. Apparently it only took 5 million on its opening day.

It probably made that because nobody knows that it's out!
Ebert gave it a pretty good review and I've heard very good things from XF philes, I'd rather listen to those guys over critics any day!
Keep an open mind about this guys, it's X-Files afterall so hopefully it will be at least an enjoyable watch.

Yes the reviews seem on the whole negative, not that I've read any just looked at the ratings it's been given and the good/bad ratio. A lot of people are referring to the poor reviews posted on the Rotten Tomatoes site. I scanned though those rather quick and most of the critics I have certainly never heard of. Seems to be like Marmite, the critics either love it or hate it. Guess some just don't 'get' The X-Files. Mind you if I'd listened to the critics I would have stopped watching after season 7 and would have missed the many gems from season 8 & 9. So what do they know. I also don't like the way it's being referred to as a sequel to the 1998 film The X-Files, cause it's not really a sequel to that film at all, dammit. Some of the negativity might also be due to a bit of a backlash by the press due to the lack of info given out about the film by Fox. Apparently a lot of the press weren't happy about having been given nothing new to print about it in the lead up to the release. Some people were predicting something like this might happen a month or so ago. I'll be there Friday going in with an open mind, I'm not going in expecting a huge summer blockbuster full of CGI, car chases and explosions as I think many were. I'll take it for what it is.

Just seen The Dark Night. Very good indeed. Quite long, but I felt like I got my money's worth! Surprised it's a 12a to be honest

Well Empire gave it 3/5 and Kim Newman usually knows his stuff so I would say his review is fairly trustworthy and fair. Plus he was obviously a fan. Don't read it if you are avoiding spoilers. I guess some of the reviews are gonna be coming from a whole range of people - newbies, people who watched and gave up or those who stuck with it. I've heard Ebert called GA Gillian Armstrong. The marketing has been pretty damn terrible, just the wrong way to play it. On the one hand the secrecy is good in terms of hiding the plot and creating a little bit of buzz, BUT it does piss people off. Not to mention the lack of a good spread of trailers and not a whole pile of posters in cinemas. I don't know how many films I saw and not one had the trailer, not even The Dark Knight. Some people are jumping up and down saying it's great to have M & S back which in a way is true but them alone is not really enough. This is not about being a demanding fan, heck I'm not a shipper and I've forgotten huge chunks of the show, but god I will be quite annoyed if the story is poor. We know what they're capable of when they're firing on full cylinders. I agree with you Rich, calling it a sequel is stupid and very annoying.

You didn't get the trailer for The Dark knight, aww man...we got the trailer here and it recieved a nice reception.
ITV right now are showing a special about the film - they're really hyping it. They've showed a lot of footage and I really like what I've seen so far...although there is a weird line about Mulder's sister which made me cringe a little.
Hopefully they'll rerun this special, it's a weird time to have it on. It's very cheesy - they're making the presenter follow clues haha!
EDIT: They're actually mocking the secrecy thing - the presenter somehow got the script and people are attempting to take it from him. But he's just bumped into CC.
