www.xfiles.com The trailer is officially up - Thank to Ahab for letting us know first in the spoiler forum (which has been pretty much spoiler free since it opened...hmmm). It gives you a nice look at the characters but barely even hints at the plot of the film - doesn't give out much info at all. But still, enjoy PS. I put this here as I don't consider a trailer to be spoilerish - is it?

[shadow=black,left,900]I'm gonna plum for no. Would be a pretty crap trailer if it gave too much away. Not looked yet, but will be on my way in a sec. You think the spoiler forum is deterring posting? You can take it down if you like.[/shadow]

I can't wait...bring on August 1st!!! Yeah, a good trailer doesn't give anything away (so rare in trailers now). I think they'll release a bigger trailer in a month or so.

Apparently a new trailer will be bundled with The Happening from M. Night Shyamalan. This is due for release on June 13th in the States...not a lot of time to get people interested.

Anyone seen the trailer in the cinema yet? Is it even in the cinemas over here yet?

Apparently it's bundled with The Happening & The Incredible Hulk.
The official site has also been recently updated.

I have seen The Happening and The Incredible Hulk and neither of them had the trailer so me is not a happy phile. At this rate they'll forget to release the bloody thing over here. Not happy at all. How are people supposed to know about if they won't bloody market it?

I agree the marketing or lack of is a bit worrying. I'll take it as read that most die hard fans will see it regardless (I know I will ;o) but how on earth do they expect to get casual fans, let alone regular cinema goers to see it if there is no promotion.
FTF at least had good marketing, Fox spent about $60m on marketing alone when arguably they didn't need to, to such an extent with the series on air and at the height of it's popularity. It's been off the screens now for over 6 years, people will have forgotton about it - It needs promoting!
I was speaking to a casual Phile I know Monday. By casual I mean he's seen all the eps and has them on DVD - While he likes it, watching it is about as interested in it as he gets, for example he wouldn't come to a place like this and discuss it. I was surprised to find out he wasn't even aware there was a new film coming out! These are the sort of people that Fox need to reach, either through cinema, press, TV, radio whatever. I think I can honestly say if I didn't have the net or visit places like this and seek out info online, I would have no knowledge of this film's existance either. Don't think I've heard/seen/read anything other than stuff I've seen online.
Maybe Fox will suprise us all with a huge campaign next month but I just hope they don't simply expect all the people that watched it through the 90's on TV will automatically just turn up. Because they wont!

Well apparently the trailer IS out there with those two films, just not everywhere it seems. I'd agree with you about reaching out to the more casual fan. There's a couple of articles and interviews appearing now so hopefully that will add to any internet buzz. However, some philes are saying that the level of secrecy surrounding the plot may be pissing off parts of the media. So far I've only seen one crappy, crumpled poster in a cinema lobby. I mean it's opening a week after The Dark Knight, it could potentially take quite a hammering.

How's that grab ya? Two small puncture wounds... Am glad we're getting some covers and that not everything is dominated by The Dark Knight though apparently another trailer for it appeared this morning. Word is that is a trailer/promo is starting to appear on TV in the States. I'm posting the Youtube link in the spoiler section. Is Billy Connolly going to say anything other than 'it's here' for the whole film? ;D

There's a few new 30 second spots on the official site and some of these or variations are being shown on US TV. A few new pics have been floating around as well, all that stuff is perhaps best avoided if you don't want to be spoiled.
I have to say I'm really concerned it will get its arse seriously kicked at the box office.
